Department of Pharmacology
Medicines are part of our life from birth- when we enter the world with the aid of drugs, to death- when drugs assist us to depart with minimal distress. In between these events, use of drugs (Medicines) increases human happiness by elimination or suppression of diseases and improves the quality of life.
“Pharmacology” may be defined as the scientific study of drugs. Over the centuries humans have sought relief from discomfort in ‘remedies’ collected from gradually the need for proper investigation of medications was recognized. It was only in the early years of the 20th century that we began to see the use of specific chemical substances to achieve particular biological effects; that is, the exact science of drug action, which is ‘Pharmacology’.
